Russell was very creative and talented even as a kid. I knew Russell best from his Elementary school days. I was one of the lucky there the day he sang at Church of the Savoir, His Eyes are on the Sparrow. I also had the privilege of going on Mission Trips to Mexico with Russell and the church youth group. Since it was over a 6 hour drive, Russell would make up songs to pass the time. On our way home from Mexico we were all talking about how in Mexico we saw lots of dogs but never saw a cat. So the joke became that in Mexico you eat cats! Russell used this joke and made up a song. "Cato Tacos. We like em. We love em!" We probably sang this song the whole 6 hour trip home. It even became a familiar tune we would all sing during any church trips.
Another favorite memory of mine was spending the night at the Glenn's house! A slumber party with Brenda always included Russell. Usually, Little brothers are never welcomed to their big sister's slumber parties. Russell was a very welcomed guest at any slumber party Brenda and I would have! He made us laugh and helped us make prank calls. In the mornings Russell would make us Breakfast Surprise. He would grab whatever was available in the kitchen and make us a breakfast. He would never tell Brenda and I the ingredients. We had to guess.
Russell and I connected with our love for music and fashion. We would swap ideas for safety pin necklaces or swap advise on how to color our hair the color of the rainbow.
Russell you are an important part of my youth. I love you for that. You will always hold a special place in my heart.
